Local rock ‘n’ rollers, especially those who fondly recall years gone by at the Casbah, should be psyched about opening night of the Oceanside Film Festival (OFF) on Tuesday. The program at the Oceanside Museum of Art kicks off at 6 p.m. with a showcase of photographs that capture the energy of the San Diego music scene in the height of its storied past. The photographers featured are Ted Drake (his work is pictured), Miki Vucovich, Zach Cordner, Tim Fears, Greg Jacobs, Kristy Walker, Chris Valle and Terrin Durfey.

“Moments From the Seen, Part II” is a sequel to a photo show first presented at downtown San Diego’s Casbah in 2018. The man behind it is the Oceanside Film Festival’s executive director, Lou Niles, who’s also the co-host of 91X’s longtime show “Loudspeaker.” Niles says the focus of the OFF show will be as much on the photographers behind the images as on the images themselves.

While the OFF is screening a provocative roster of full-length and short films through Feb. 24, “The festival is not just films,” said Niles, an Oceanside resident in his seventh year with the event. “We always try to do something different and special that offers an experience that you can’t get everywhere.”

He’s right. Check out the schedule: osidefilm.org. This is a festival that includes an eco-documentary (Beatie Wolfe’s “Trees & Seas”), an evening of surf-themed film shorts and an animated shorty (“Speedman”) set on the Planet Platypus.
